Easy solution to the rice crisis
Submitted by joyfulchicken on May 28, 2008 - 2:29am.
Okay, not really.
I've been planning to write a serious essay about the rice crisis for the Philippines Issues Writing Project, but I'm procrastinating as usual. So for now, I'll show you this and call it a blog entry.

Save rice. Eat spaghetti.
That's nonsense of course. But I guess it's a fairly clever ad. And because I worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster, The Old Spaghetti House is one of my favorite restaurants--they have all the right stuff to make my tummy happy and turn my poop black.
Oh no, I'm getting hungry now.

Very clever of TOSH, indeed.
Very clever of TOSH, indeed. I want pasta now =(
Yes
Must... have... pasta.
That is just appalling
I'm eating kamote instead. These upper-class dorks, did they seriously think they're resolving the crisis by pushing "alternatives" more expensive than rice? jeez
But spaghetti
is much tastier than rice. That has got to count for something, right?
Spaghetti good
Mmmmmmm
_____
My new blog (even I don't know why I need it)
Yes
Rice sucks.
That's an unfair comparison
Pasta isn't much tastier than rice, they're probably on an equal footing as far as taste is concerned. Now a few drops of soy sauce, maybe a pinch of salt or a spoonful of Star Margarine would do wonders for rice, not so for pasta.
Rice toppings are arguably better than spaghetti, of course that depends mainly on your preference.
Hmm
"Now a few drops of soy sauce, maybe a pinch of salt or a spoonful of Star Margarine would do wonders for rice, not so for pasta."
How the hell would you know? Have you ever tried soy sauce and margarine pasta?
I waive my right to respond
On grounds that I might incriminate myself. :p
I thought
this was an attempt to transform Chicken Mafia into a food blog. =P

What?
You're a food blogger now? Tired of politics? :-P
No
I just love food.
Like putting leftover spaghetti sauce over rice. Yum.
Or spaghetti sauce over fried chicken. Instant afritada!

Spaghetti sauce
over fried chicken? Hmm. Have to try that sometime.
Where do you get
that much leftover spaghetti sauce? o_O

Since the pasta and the sauce
are cooked separately, is it so implausible that there would be more of one than the other?
He just made an impression...
that he has enough of extra pasta sauce to cover any kind of food he has at any time of the day, week, month and year :-P
_____
My new blog (even I don't know why I need it)
That sounds wonderful
I wish the whole world is covered in spaghetti sauce.
Or chocolate
Boy I'd love that.
A world covered in chocolate?
That would look like God had diarrhea.
Depending on pasta sauce, of course,
but not actually much of a difference, eh? :-P
_____
My new blog (even I don't know why I need it)
Carbonara sauce
could actually look quite disgusting if you think about it.
The one that'd look as if
God just blew his load all over the place?
_____
My new blog (even I don't know why I need it)
If that happens,
the world is fucked... literally.
Wow
This sure is a disgusting talk.
We haven't specified it's the Christian God
yet. Calm down :-)
_____
My new blog (even I don't know why I need it)
BOOM!
Good one XD
Yeah
Like that makes it less disgusting.
Pasta is much more expensive than rice
pasta is wheat-based. wheat price increase (78% vs May 08 vs May 07) is not as high as the increase of global rice price (163%)but then, pasta is still more expensive since it's process is more complicated than rice.
but i still love pasta be it Jollibee, Yellow Cab, Figaro or TOSH. :D
Hmm
I've never tried Figaro's pasta. I bet it's good but expensive :-|
KFC's
Spaghetti wasn't so bad during our college days. The KFC here doesn't have rice nor spaghetti! and no gravy either!
KFC with no gravy?
That's so sad.
KFC from Hell?
And one of my favorite fast food spaghetti happens to be from KFc
Lolz!
Save rice, Eat Spaghetti?! that actually makes sense...
Makes sense?
I guess that makes you one of those upper-class dorks that Jeff was talking about :-P
Clever line by the Old
Clever line by the Old Spaghetti House. Haha. Will spaghetti make me fatter (well, if I make it a rice substitute). What a dumb question.
Okay, I'm hungry now!
I'm hungry too
Snack time!
Yehey!
Finally a reason to visit Italliani's! My favey!
Pasta is my soulmate! LoL!
How about potatoes as a substitute? Mashed potatoes! One of my favorite side dishes.
Yes yes,
potatoes (and sweet potatoes) should be good substitutes for rice. They're tastier and more nutritious too.
Argh!!! Stop talking about food!
Food is so expensive here! I think I'll be an equivalent of an African child by the end of June.
Speaking of spaghetti...my cuz said she wants to make one...but she didn't! How can she find the time!? Oh poor me!!!!
Hmm
I think we should ban all food talk after 9 PM :-D
Good Good
Oh btw, it's after 9 but can I just say this? Oishi Sponge Crunch is superb!
You broke the rule!
Tsk :-P
9 PM
Of which time zone? :-P
_____
My new blog (even I don't know why I need it)
God, I hate time zones
Why can't everyone just follow our time?
Yea yea
our time :)
Oh no!! You made me hungry!!
But im a Kanin-bal!!! Although, I love pasta too. Hmmm..spaghetti and rice? Yes? No, wait, eewww.
Haha
Kanin-bal :-D
Haha. Yeah. Saw this on
Haha. Yeah. Saw this on Katipunan, too. ^_^
Those Pastafarians...
they're everywhere!
My sister
hated this ad. She did have a point though. How can the poor afford buying spaghetti? The cheapest spaghetti in the supermarket is at least 10 pesos more expensive than a kilo of rice. Plus the fact that you have to buy spaghetti sauce.
I think, we should save rice by eating less rice. Is it just Pinoys or are most Asians so in love with rice that they could finish 2 cups in one seating? One-half cup of rice is one serving of rice.
Sorry, my sister's a med student. She was the one who told me about the one-half cup is to 1 serving
1/2 cup is 1 serving?
No problem. We'll just need to have a few more servings :-P
Sure
You'd be surprise at what other stuff are considered already one serving, like a slice of bread, half a bagel and half a cup of cooked cereal or pasta, but we are advised to eat 6 to 11 servings of those in a day anyway.
How many servings
of useless trivia do you eat in a day?
Trivia...
is fun. You should try it, hahaha...
Do you know that
40% of employee sick days are taken on Mondays and Fridays?
Yay! Trivia is fun!
food poisoning
ahm, im not so sure but there were rumors of food poisoning in the old spag house near UST...
owell, just want to share... no intention to ruin a reputation... hehehe
Given this country's
lack of food safety standards, you're risking food poisoning every time you eat out :-D
eye catching
the slogan is really eye catching
Yes it is
Much better than their original "we're not responsible for any cases of food poisoning" slogan.
